Our tempered glass technology makes a GW GeWalt glass balcony one of the safest on the Malaysian market, and we cover the whole job from installation to maintenance. We are one of Malaysia’s most experienced sliding door system and door hardware providers, which means the fixings holding your balustrade up come from the same catalogue as everything else we build.

The benefits of a glass balcony railing

A glass balcony suits modern interiors, but the case for it goes beyond how it looks.

It provides a clear view

For a view, glass is the best material there is. It gives clarity and lets you see through in a way nothing else does, so the railing offers an unobstructed wide view. You enjoy the outdoor environment without feeling that you have become part of it, and the balcony still ventilates properly.

It opens up the space

A glass balustrade lets maximum light into the room behind it. The entryway looks brighter and airier even on a dull day, and indoor air quality improves with the ventilation. Bringing natural light deeper into a room also reduces how much artificial lighting you run during the day.

It is easy to maintain

Glass is easier to clean than the alternatives because it is non-porous, so it does not attract or hold dust. A single wipe with a damp cloth and mild detergent is the whole job, which makes it a sensible choice if you would rather not maintain a railing at all.

It prevents accidents

Railing failures under sustained load cause injuries every year. A glass balustrade gives sturdy support in a single uniform surface running from floor level up, with none of the unnecessary cuts and openings where a conventional railing develops the weakness that leads to a breakage or a fall-through.

How it is fixed

The panel is only as good as what holds it. We set 12mm toughened panels into the GW-L001A aluminium base channel, bolted to the slab and wedged plumb with the Shawpin system. The channel comes in 200mm modules cut to the run, with end cups closing it neatly at each termination.

There is a slim version of the profile at 31.7mm wide where the base needs to be visually light, and the standard 82.5mm profile where the run is long or exposed.

Balcony, railing or curtain

These three overlap, so it is worth being clear about which you need.

A glass balcony is the glazing that encloses or edges a balcony. A glass railing is the balustrade system itself, including stair and landing runs. A glass curtain goes further and encloses the balcony completely with folding panels you can open on a clear evening and close against rain.

Why Choose GW GeWalt for Glass Balconies?

The View Stays

Glass gives clarity nothing else does. You get an unobstructed wide view and proper ventilation, without feeling exposed to it.

Brighter Rooms

A glass balustrade lets daylight into the room behind it, so the entryway looks brighter and airier even on a dull day and you lean less on artificial light.

Wipes Clean

Glass is non-porous, so it does not hold dust the way a slatted railing does. A wet cloth and mild detergent is the whole maintenance routine.

Fewer Failure Points

A glass panel is one continuous surface from floor to handrail, with none of the cuts and joints where a conventional railing works loose.

Glass Balconies FAQs

Which glass is good for a balcony?

Tempered glass. Its safety and thermal properties make it very hard to break, and it insulates against noise, sun and wind. It also protects the structure behind it from knocks and from careless cleaning.

How safe is balcony glass?

Tempered glass does not break and splinter the way ordinary glass does. If it ever fails, it crumbles into blunt granules rather than shards. Injury is still possible from fractured pieces, so for fall-risk positions we specify laminated-tempered glass, which holds together in its interlayer even when broken.

Do glass balconies get hot?

They warm up in direct sun, but tempered glass stays up to five degrees cooler than other glass types and resists thermal shock. It handles a sudden jump in surface temperature without cracking, which is why it does not become dangerously hot for long in Malaysian conditions.

Are glass balconies expensive?

They cost more than a plain metal railing, and less than most people expect once the run is measured. Price is driven by total run length, glass thickness, fixing method and access. The RM50 on-site measurement, deductible on order, gives you a firm figure.

What glass thickness do I need?

12mm is the standard for a frameless balustrade in the GW-L001A channel. The span between fixings, the height above floor level and the wind exposure of the site can push that higher; we size it per position rather than applying one thickness everywhere.

Do you work in high-rise condominiums?

Yes, across the Klang Valley, including coordinating with the management office and handling panels safely to upper floors.
