A GeWalt glass railing gives you an unobstructed view of your surroundings: no blind spots, and nothing to trip over on the way up and down the stairs. The same system works in commercial properties, where the added safety and convenience matter just as much.

Glass is a good railing material because it is transparent. You keep the view while still feeling safe, and the clear surface means people do not trip over the railing itself, which happens more often than you would think with railings that lack a flat top surface. It is durable, easy to clean, and we can work with any style of railing or staircase you have in mind. Residential and commercial both.

Benefits of tempered glass railings

Superior strength. Glass is stronger than aluminium, stone and vinyl in the ways a balustrade is actually loaded, and it does not corrode, rot or fatigue.

It withstands harsh weather. Glass railings hold up in all conditions and keep their durability, which is what keeps everyone safe on an exposed balcony or an open stair.

Impact resistance. They resist scratches and impact damage well, so the railing keeps looking new for far longer than painted or coated alternatives.

Low maintenance. The job most property owners dread is maintaining the exterior. A glass railing removes most of it: no annual paint, no sealants, and less frequent cleaning than a slatted or bar railing that catches dust.

Customised glass railings

Glass railings can be customised to meet the requirements set by any state or local building code. They come in a range of finishes and colours, so there are plenty of options when you design the system, and textured surfaces are available where you want an added element of safety underfoot or underhand.

Glass railings can be installed for:

  • Balcony
  • Door and entrance way
  • Staircase
  • Office partitions

Why choose us

We are one of Malaysia’s most experienced glass processing machine and accessory providers, so we know how to get the job done right. That means one company for the whole glass installation, not a fabricator here and an installer there.

Our team has worked on residential and commercial properties before and knows what it takes to run a project from start to finish. If something does go wrong along the way, our customer service will resolve it as quickly as possible.

Railing, balcony or curtain

If you are glazing the edge of a balcony specifically, see glass balconies. If you want the balcony fully enclosed with panels that open on a clear evening, that is a glass curtain. This page covers the balustrade system itself, including stairs, landings and office partition runs.

Glass railing specification

The two numbers that decide a balustrade are glass thickness and fixing spacing. Everything else follows from them.

PropertySpecificationWhy
Glass thickness8-12mmThin enough and the panel flexes under a leaning crowd; the range exists so the panel stays rigid across its span.
Glass typeTempered safety glassSurface hardened by rapid heating and cooling, so it resists shattering far better than untempered soda-lime glass.
FixingStandoff, base channel or spigotThe fixing carries the load, not the glass. Strong braces below the rail are what stop the panel moving when someone pushes against it.
ApplicationsBalcony, door and entrance way, staircase, office partitionsSame system, different run lengths and heights.
FinishesRange of finishes, colours and surface texturesTextured surfaces add grip and an extra element of safety on stair runs.

Thickness is set per position, not per project. A long unsupported span on a staircase needs more glass than a short balcony run at the same height.

Why Choose GW GeWalt for Glass Railings?

Superior Strength

Glass is stronger than aluminium, stone or vinyl in the ways a balustrade is loaded, and it does not corrode or rot.

Holds Up to Weather

A glass railing keeps its durability through all conditions, which matters on an exposed Malaysian balcony or an open stair.

Impact and Scratch Resistant

It resists scratches and impact damage well, so it still looks new long after a painted or powder-coated railing has stopped.

Low Maintenance

No annual paint, no sealants, no rust treatment. Cleaning it occasionally is the entire maintenance schedule.

How Our Glass Railings Service Works

Discuss the design

Tell us the run, the heights and the look you want. We advise on frameless versus framed and on fixing type.

Measure

On-site measurement at RM50, deductible on order, sets panel sizes, fixing positions and the stair rake.

Fabricate

Glass is cut to the rake, edge-polished, drilled where standoffs are used, then toughened.

Install

Fixings are set into the structure, panels aligned and plumbed, and the handrail or cap fitted.

Got Questions?

Glass Railings FAQs

Is a glass railing more expensive?

Yes, up front, and it may well last longer. Glass is far less prone to water damage than timber and immune to fire damage. Tempered safety glass lasts longest of all, because the hardened surface resists shattering in a way ordinary soda-lime glass does not.

Are glass railings safe?

For the most part, yes. The one thing that matters is maintenance: glass is susceptible to chips and cracks, and a chipped edge is where a later failure starts. Inspect the edges periodically and have any damaged panel replaced rather than left.

How thick should a glass railing be?

Around 8-12mm. That thickness stops the panel bending or flexing under the weight of someone leaning or climbing on it, and it prevents excessive push-out when a crowd moves past. Look for strong braces below the rail holding it in place, because the fixing is what resists the load.

Where can glass railings be installed?

Balconies, doors and entrance ways, staircases and office partitions. It is the same system in each case, with panel sizes and fixing spacing set by the run.

Can they be customised to building code?

Yes. Glass railings can be specified to meet the requirements set by any state or local building code, and they come in a range of finishes and colours, with textured surface options where extra grip is wanted.

What is the difference between a glass railing and a glass balcony?

A glass railing is the balustrade system itself, including stair and landing runs. A glass balcony is the glazing that edges or encloses a balcony specifically. Most balcony jobs use a glass railing; the terms overlap in everyday use.
