Thinking about a sliding glass door in Malaysia? The GeWalt sliding glass door system runs on heavy-duty, high-quality rollers in an aluminium frame, built from durable materials in a modern door system. That is what makes it silent, stable and exceptionally strong in daily service.

Manual or automatic: the split that matters

Everything on this page slides. The real decision is whether it slides because someone pushes it, or because a motor moves it.

Manual and semi-automatic systems are on this page: the manual sliding glass door, the sliding and folding door, the frameless system and the shower series. They are cheaper, simpler, and have almost nothing to go wrong.

Powered systems are the electromagnetic door and the auto tempered glass door, and the full motorised range lives on our automatic sliding door page. You pay more up front and you get hands-free access, which is what a hospital corridor or a busy shopfront needs.

Types of glass sliding door

Electromagnetic sliding glass door

A 4 x 8 feet aluminium-frame door panel with laminated glass, plus a matching fixed panel, opened by two wireless push buttons or two microwave sensors. From RM6,000++ supply and install.

Auto tempered glass sliding door

The full commercial system: a 6.2 metre double-opening automatic mechanism, two 12mm tempered glass leaves, two 12mm tempered fixed panels, two microwave sensors and a one-year on-site warranty. From RM9,800++ supply and install.

Manual sliding glass door

An aluminium-frame door and 4 x 8 feet laminated glass, cover included. The simplest system we make and the one that lasts longest without attention.

Sliding and folding glass door

Combines the sliding door and foldable door concepts in tempered glass, giving maximum visibility and flexibility across a wide span. See folding glass doors for the folding systems in detail.

Telescopic sliding glass doors

The GeWalt telescopic portfolio answers two situations: a narrow entrance that needs a wide opening space, and a large door entrance. Available in clear see-through or tinted glass. See telescopic sliding doors.

Frameless sliding glass door

The frameless design gives a clean, contemporary look that works with any decor. Adjusting the sash position changes the transparency from semi-translucent to fully opaque, creating a range of different ambiences. It also creates more headroom, which makes it the answer for high ceilings, round areas, sloping ceilings with soffits, existing cornices needing a transition detail, and stairwells.

Shower sliding glass door

Aluminium shower screens including the front-entry and bi-fold series, with frosted and leaded designs available. See shower sliding systems for the hardware detail.

What are the benefits of a sliding door system

Adding sliding doors is a sensible move, and not only for how they look.

1. Indoor and outdoor flow. Sliding doors create a seamless transition from outside to inside. The large glass panes mean you get the view of the yard and the surroundings all year round.

2. Safety. Homeowners used to avoid sliding doors, and the reason was fair: the old ones had no safety glass. Current sliding doors use shatterproof safety glass, which makes them safe in a home or an office.

3. Security. Worth thinking about before you buy. Look for aluminium seals, incorporated gaskets and fixed leaves, and check the lock has a hook-over mechanism, which is what stops the sliding leaf being lifted out of the frame.

4. Saved space. A sliding door has no hinge and no arc. It glides along a track and opens by sliding over another panel, so you keep the floor area a swing door would need to stay clear.

5. Natural light. The panes run top to bottom on each panel, so the design maximises daylight through the opening for the whole day.

6. Glazing options. Parents like sliding doors because the unrestricted view makes it easy to keep an eye on children outside. Glazing choices add to that: reduced UV transmission, less energy loss, better insulation, and less condensation and frost on the panels.

Sliding Glass Doors FAQs

What are the benefits of a sliding glass door?

It improves safety with shatterproof safety glass, saves space because there is no door arc to keep clear, provides good security when specified with proper seals and locks, and lets in far more natural light than a solid door.

Which types of sliding glass door do you supply?

Electromagnetic, auto tempered glass, manual sliding, sliding and folding, telescopic, frameless, and shower sliding glass doors.

How much does it cost to install a sliding glass door?

It depends on the type. A full automatic tempered glass system is RM9,800++ supply and install, an electromagnetic sliding door RM6,000++, converting an existing manual door to automatic RM1,999++, and a semi-automatic door RM1,700++. Manual and frameless systems are quoted from your measured opening.

Are sliding doors safe?

Yes, now. The old reputation came from doors fitted without safety glass. Current sliding doors use shatterproof safety glass, which makes them safe for homes and offices alike.

How do I make a sliding door secure?

Look for aluminium seals, incorporated gaskets and fixed leaves, and check that the lock has a hook-over mechanism. That hook is what stops someone lifting the sliding leaf out of its frame from outside.

What glazing options are available?

Clear see-through or tinted, plus glazing that reduces harmful UV rays, prevents energy loss, improves insulation and reduces condensation and frost on the panels.

What is the difference between this and an automatic sliding door?

This page covers the whole sliding family, most of it manual or assisted. A full automatic sliding door has a motorised operator, sensors and a controller. If you want the door to open by itself, see our automatic sliding door page.
