GeWalt extends the product catalogue into machinery solutions. Operation on EC construction sites is only permissible with a mechanical holding device according to EN 13155, and that standard is what this product is built around.

Why a glass company sells lifting equipment

Because we lift glass. A 12mm toughened panel two metres square weighs roughly 120kg, and that is a normal size for a shopfront leaf or a balustrade run.

Manual handling at that weight is how backs and fingers get damaged, and it is also how panels get dropped. A vacuum lifter grips the face of the sheet by suction, takes the weight mechanically, and lets one or two people position a panel that four could not safely carry.

EN 13155

The standard covers non-fixed load lifting attachments. It is the reason a compliant device is not an optional upgrade: on an EC construction site, a lift using a non-compliant holding device is not permitted at all.

If you are specifying equipment for a site that works to those rules, the compliance is the specification.

Sizing it

Pad count, lifting capacity and power option are all set from the panels you actually handle. Send us the largest panel size and weight in your work and we will specify from that rather than from a standard package.

The full range and specifications are in the machinery catalogue PDF above.

For hand tools rather than lifting equipment, see glass tools. For the glass itself, see tempered glass doors.

Why Buy Vacuum Lifters From GW GeWalt?

Compliance Is the Product

EN 13155 is what makes the lift permissible on an EC construction site. A device that does not meet it is not a cheaper option; it is a stopped job.

Sized to Your Panels

Pad count and capacity are specified from the largest panel you actually handle, not from a standard package.

From a Glass Company

We handle heavy panels ourselves, so the recommendation comes from lifting glass rather than from selling machinery.

A Genuine Safety Case

A 12mm panel two metres square weighs around 120kg. Manual handling at that weight is where site injuries come from.

Vacuum Lifters FAQs

What is a vacuum lifting device?

A lifting attachment that grips a glass panel by suction on its face rather than by clamping its edges, so a large sheet can be lifted and positioned without anyone taking the weight by hand.

What is EN 13155?

The European standard for non-fixed load lifting attachments. Operation on EC construction sites is only permissible with a mechanical holding device that meets it, which is why the standard matters more than the specification here.

How big a panel can it handle?

That depends on the pad count and capacity specified. Tell us the largest panel size and weight you need to lift and we will specify the device from that.

Why does a glass supplier sell machinery?

Because we lift heavy glass ourselves. Extending the catalogue into machinery followed from the same work: a fabricator who installs 12mm panels needs a way to handle them safely, and so do the customers doing their own installations.

How heavy is a glass panel, really?

Around 25kg per square metre for every 10mm of thickness. A 12mm panel two metres square is roughly 120kg. That is well past what should be moved by hand, which is the whole argument for a lifter.
