The Question Every Owner Eventually Faces
Every automatic door reaches an afternoon where the automatic door repair quote makes you pause: fix it again, or start over? The good news is that the decision is more objective than it feels. Four factors — age, component condition, parts availability and downtime tolerance — settle it in almost every case.
The Four Deciding Factors
Age and design life. Quality systems live 15-20 years with maintenance — kept on the rhythm our guide on how often automatic doors should be serviced recommends; budget systems far less. A 6-year-old door with one fault is a repair. A 17-year-old door with one fault is a warning.
How many components are worn. This is our rule of thumb in the field: when three or more of the core four — motor, rollers/track, belt, controller — are worn at once, replacement usually beats the accumulating cost of piecemeal fixes.
Parts availability. Older and discontinued platforms eventually run out of controllers and sensors. When each repair starts with a parts hunt, the system is telling you its era has closed.
Downtime cost. A single-entrance business bleeds during every breakdown. If failures are becoming a pattern, reliability itself is worth paying for.

The Quick Matrix
| Your situation | The sensible call |
|---|---|
| One failed part, system under ~10 years | Repair |
| Recurring faults, rising annual spend | Assess seriously — likely replace |
| Parts discontinued for your platform | Replace |
| 3+ core components worn together | Replace |
| Safety functions unreliable | Replace urgently |
Watch the trailing-12-month number
Add up what the door has cost in repairs over the past year. When that figure approaches half of a new system’s price — and the old system is still old — the arithmetic has answered the question for you.
Either Way, You Want the Same Assessor
The trap in this decision is asking someone with only one product to sell. Because repair across all brands is half our business, we profit either way — which frees us to grade your door honestly. Our inspection scores each core component, prices the realistic repair path, and compares it against a new automatic sliding door with modern anti-clamp safety, a 200kg-rated BLDC motor and a fresh 15-year horizon (from RM2,000).
Replacement also buys what repair cannot: current safety sensors, backup battery support, quieter operation and parts availability for years ahead. That is worth pricing even if repair wins this round.
Send us your door’s age, brand and fault history on WhatsApp. We will tell you which side of the line it sits on — and show the numbers for both paths.
