# Why Is My Sliding Door Dragging on the Floor?

A sliding door dragging on the floor usually means worn rollers, a misaligned track or frame sag. See the causes and repair options.

## A Dragging Door Is a Dropped Door

When a sliding door scrapes the floor or its track, the leaf is sitting lower than it was installed. Something that used to hold it at the right height no longer does — and putting it right is usually a

job. Three culprits cover nearly every case, and they are worth telling apart because their fixes differ.

**Worn rollers** — the leading cause by far. The wheels carrying the leaf flatten and their bearings collapse, lowering the door a few millimetres. A few millimetres is all it takes.

**A worn or bent track** — the rail itself deforms under years of load (or one bad trolley impact), and the leaf follows the dip. Our guide on

 covers that path.

**Frame sag** — the building moves. Settling lintels and shifting frames squeeze the opening until the leaf kisses the floor, usually at one end of its travel.

## Reading the Drag Pattern

Where the door drags tells you which culprit you have:

| Drag pattern | Likely cause |
| --- | --- |
| Drags along the whole travel | Worn rollers |
| Drags at one spot only | Bent or worn track section |
| Drags at one end, tight at top | Frame sag / settling |
| Started suddenly after impact | Derailed roller or bent track |

> **The adjustment trap**
>
> Most rollers have height screws, and winding the leaf up feels like a fix. If the rollers are worn, it’s a countdown, not a repair — the collapsing bearing keeps collapsing, and meanwhile the door keeps chewing its track. Adjustment is for fine-tuning healthy hardware, not compensating for dead hardware.

## Why Waiting Costs More

Dragging is friction, and friction destroys progressively: the track gouges, the floor scratches, the leaf’s bottom edge wears — and on automatic doors, the motor pays the biggest price, hauling a load it was never sized for until it overheats. A dragging door fixed this month needs rollers; the same door next quarter may need rollers, track and a motor.

The repair itself is routine for our team: leaf lifted, rollers matched (custom-fabricated for non-standard doors) and replaced, track dressed or renewed, height set, and frame checked so the new parts do not inherit an old alignment problem. Homes, shoplots and offices across the Klang Valley, usually in a single visit — WhatsApp us a video of the drag and we will bring the right parts.

## Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my door scrape the floor?

The leaf has dropped. Worn rollers are the usual reason — their flattened wheels no longer hold the door at height — with sagging frames and bent tracks close behind.

Can a dragging door be adjusted rather than repaired?

Sometimes. Many rollers have height-adjustment screws that can lift the leaf — but if the rollers are worn, adjustment only buys weeks. Worn parts need replacing.

Is dragging actually damaging anything?

Yes, continuously. It gouges the track and floor, wears the leaf's bottom edge, and on automatic doors it forces the motor to haul the friction — the classic route to premature motor failure.
